Picture this: A deadly virus sweeps the country, but the agencies responsible for protecting you—tracking outbreaks, researching cures, and coordinating responses—have been gutted. That’s not a dystopian novel; it’s what Trump is doing right now. Over 5,000 employees from critical public health institutions, including the NIH and CDC, are being laid off, targeting those on probationary status and eliminating contract workers. Such drastic cuts undermine our public health infrastructure at a time when we need it most.

Why This Matters: Public health isn’t political—it’s about keeping you and your family safe. The CDC and NIH track disease outbreaks, develop life-saving treatments, and respond to health emergencies. Weakening them puts everyone at risk, especially the most vulnerable among us.

This move is part of a broader strategy: dismantling institutions that provide oversight and public services so that corporate interests—not science—control the narrative. Fewer experts mean fewer regulations, fewer safeguards, and more room for political interference in decisions that should be driven by public health, not profits.

And make no mistake: The next pandemic will come. The question is, will we have the tools and experts to fight it—or will Trump’s cuts leave us defenseless?

Actions You Can Take: Trump and his allies are hoping you won’t pay attention. Prove them wrong. Here’s what you can do:

📞 Call Congress NOW: Demand that your representatives oppose these reckless cuts. Use this script:

“Hi, my name is [Your Name] and I’m a constituent from [Your City/State]. I’m outraged that over 5,000 public health employees are being laid off, weakening the NIH and CDC. These agencies are critical to our nation’s health security. I urge [Representative’s Name] to publicly oppose these cuts and work to restore funding. Our lives depend on it.”

📝 Sign and Share Petitions: Organizations like Public Citizen are mobilizing against these cuts. Find and sign a petition today.

📢 Educate Others: Post about this on social media, talk to your friends and family, and share this article. The more people know, the harder it is for them to get away with it.

Social Media Push: Trump is gutting the CDC and NIH—over 5,000 experts gone. This isn’t politics. This is your health on the line. Call Congress NOW. #SavePublicHealth #CDC #NIH

Conclusion: This is about whether we have a functioning public health system when the next crisis hits. If we let this happen, what’s next—defunding food safety? Shutting down the FDA? We have a choice: Fight back now, or watch our safety nets disappear. Make the call. Sign the petition. Speak out. The time is NOW.
