Trump's Healthcare Freeze is a Dangerous Game
The Trump administration’s decision to halt distribution of HIV medications under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is a humanitarian crisis in the making. This abrupt freeze halts critical funding for clinics across more than 50 countries, leaving countless individuals without lifesaving care. Already, appointments are being canceled, HIV testing and prevention programs are grinding to a halt, and patients are facing increased risks of higher viral loads and transmission.
What’s most alarming is that PEPFAR is a lifeline. For decades, it has maintained bipartisan support and saved millions of lives. This freeze jeopardizes that progress and threatens to erase years of international goodwill. It also sends a chilling message to vulnerable communities and marginalized groups, reinforcing a broader pattern of marginalization and disregard for global health equity.
We cannot allow ideology to outweigh human lives. This policy needs immediate reversal, and we must push Congress to defend PEPFAR. Reach out to your representatives. Demand a commitment to continuing this proven, life-saving program. People’s lives are on the line, and our collective voice can help save them.
